Akemi Villa explores how restraint can still feel rich. While natural stone is often the default choice to introduce texture, we approached this project differently. The client valued craftsmanship over material expression, leading us to carve directly into the plastered wall rather than applying an additional layer. This decision allowed the surface to remain visually light while gaining depth through shadow and detail.

Instead of adding weight, the carving becomes part of the architecture itself, integrated, intentional, and quietly present. It transforms a typically flat plane into a focal point without overpowering the space.

Set within an open-plan living area, the wall interacts with natural light throughout the day, revealing subtle variations in texture. The result is a space that feels calm yet considered, where every detail contributes without demanding attention. A minimal gesture, shaped by a different way of thinking.
